Status: 02/13/2021 9:53 a.m.

The corona lockdown remains, but the weather makes going outside the door an experience: Hamburgers can expect a wonderful weekend.

Hoch “Helida” brings sunny and dry winter weather to the Hanseatic city. According to meteorologists, temperatures are around freezing during the day, while severe frost prevails at night with temperatures below -10 degrees.

Many Hamburgers are out and about with their cameras these days. Some have sent their photos to NDR 90.3:

Authority warns, police are getting people off the ice

Many take advantage of the rare permanent cold to take a trip to the smaller lakes on runners. But the environmental agency continues to warn against walking on frozen waters because the ice cover is still too thin. The Hamburg police went to about 120 missions across the city on Friday to bring people from frozen waters. The police helicopter was also used.

Ice bathers jump into the Elbe

The ice cover on the Elbe on Friday was not an issue: around 25 people went swimming in the three-degree cold water – for a good cause: the weekly one “Ice bath master” campaign In view of the low temperatures, is intended to draw attention to the difficult situation of the homeless and to encourage donations for Hanseatic Help.

The next action is planned for next Friday. But only those who feel absolutely healthy and fit should take part – and all ice bathers must stay close to the shore.
