Hamas Tunnel Found in Israeli Army Raid, Hostages Moved

The representative of the Israeli army, Daniel Hagari, informed that the entrance to the tunnel was found in the house of a “Hamas” commander. Several militants were killed in the battle for this place, but the group had moved the hostages to another place.

In the tunnel, at a depth of about twenty meters, they found a central room where, according to the testimony of the released hostages, they were kept, as well as narrow cells with a toilet and mattresses, enclosed by bars. It was possible to find objects that indicated the presence of people, including the drawings of the five-year-old girl Amelia. Information was also obtained that there were about 20 prisoners in the prison at different periods of time.

The hostage issue is causing tension in Israel itself, where also on Sunday, January 21, relatives of the captured people called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach an agreement on their release.

Palestinian supporters are also not silent, and yesterday in the Belgian capital Brussels, more than 9,000 people gathered in the action. The main demand of the demonstrators was an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

CONTEXT:

Terrorists of the Palestinian Islamist group “Hamas” launched a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip on the morning of October 7. About 1,400 Israelis, mostly civilians, were killed in the massacre. Hamas militants also captured more than 240 people and took them to the Gaza Strip.

Israel declared martial law in the country and launched extensive air and artillery strikes against Hamas targets in the group’s controlled Gaza Strip. Ground forces are also involved in the fighting. For several weeks, Israel also enforced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, cutting off electricity and water supplies to the territory and limiting humanitarian aid deliveries.

Since the beginning of October 2023, at least 25,000 of its residents have died in the Gaza Strip due to hostilities, claims the Hamas-run Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, the international community has repeatedly called on Israel to avoid civilian casualties as much as possible and to introduce humanitarian pauses in the Gaza Strip.
