Atlanta, USA (CNN) – On Friday, the Palestinian Hamas movement released two American hostages, a mother and her daughter, according to a source familiar with the negotiations and a diplomatic source.
The source familiar with the negotiations said that the two hostages were handed over to the Red Cross and were “on their way out,” and confirmed that they were released for “humanitarian reasons” because the mother is in poor health.
It is not clear whether they will leave Gaza for Egypt or Israel, but this release is the result of negotiations between Qatar and Hamas that began after Hamas attacked Israel and took hostages on October 7.
The spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, Abu Ubaida, said in a statement: “In response to Qatari efforts, we released two American detainees (a mother and her daughter) for humanitarian reasons, and to prove to the American people and the world that the allegations of Biden and his fascist administration are false allegations that have no basis in truth.”
The White House has not yet commented, nor has the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, and CNN has attempted to contact the Red Cross for comment.
