Hamas Offered 40-Day Ceasefire and Prisoner Release in Latest Gaza Strip Negotiations

Gaza City

The latest conversations to make it happen rest stop in the Gaza Strip held in Cairo, Egypt. Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) English David Cameron Hamas revealed that it had been offered a 40-day ceasefire and the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners, in return for the release of the remaining hostages.

Will Hamas reportedly left Cairo and returned to Qatar, where its political bureau is based, to discuss the latest cease-fire offer and make a decision. Hamas said it would respond to the offer as soon as possible.

As reported AFP and Al ArabiyaOn Tuesday (30/4/2024), Cameron revealed the content of the latest ceasefire proposal between Hamas and Israel when he spoke at the last panel of the special meeting of the Economic Forum (WEF) held there in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Cameron said that Hamas had been offered a “sustainable ceasefire for 40 days, the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners, in return for the release of the hostages”. Cameron called the offer a “generous offer.”

Cameron expects Hamas to accept the offer made to them.

However, Cameron in his statement at the WEF forum also stated that a political solution would be reached soon if the leadership of Hamas and those behind the October 7 attack did not leave the Gaza Strip immediately.

“The people responsible for the October 7 attack must leave Gaza and the terrorist infrastructure must be dismantled,” Cameron said, calling for the release of all hostages.

After the Hamas attacks last October, more than 250 people were kidnapped and held in the Gaza Strip. With dozens of hostages freed in a brief ceasefire agreement last November, it is estimated that more than 100 hostages are still being held in the Gaza Strip.
