The Hamas movement surprised Israel with a major offensive from the air, land and sea. In a few hours, the war has claimed several hundred lives. Several have been captured.

The Palestinian movement Hamas launched a massive attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip early on Saturday morning.

– The fighting will continue to the West Bank and Jerusalem, the heart of the Zionist entity, says Haniyeh on Saturday evening. The West Bank and East Jerusalem have been occupied by Israel since 1967.

Haniyeh further claims that Hamas is approaching “a great victory” over Israel.

Encourages confrontation

The Hamas movement’s military wing calls the attack “Operation al-Aqsa Storm”, and its leader Mohammed Deif calls on all Palestinians to confront Israel to end the occupation.

At least 200 Israelis have been killed in the Hamas attacks against Israel, according to the Israeli army. Israel’s Ministry of Health says over 1,100 people have been injured.

Earlier Saturday, the Israeli TV channel N12 reported the same death toll.

On Saturday morning, Hamas fired several thousand rockets at Israel and has also sent ground forces across the border from the Gaza Strip.

Israel has since attacked targets in the Gaza Strip from the air, and according to the Palestinian authorities at least 232 Palestinians have been killed in the attacks here.

The army: Fighting against Hamas in 22 places

The Israeli army says there are still ongoing battles against Hamas soldiers in over 20 different locations in Israel.

– We are in active combat with terrorists who have invaded Israel from sea, land and air in 22 locations, says army spokesman Richard Hecht.

He says the Hamas attack on Israel includes a “robust ground invasion”.

According to Hecht, there are also serious hostage situations going on in Beeri and in Ofakim, two Israeli settlements near the border with the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu promises large-scale revenge

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vows revenge against the Hamas movement after Saturday’s violent attack.

– The Israeli army is about to use all its power to destroy Hamas’s capabilities, Netanyahu said in a short televised statement on Saturday evening.

– We will fight them to the bitter end and avenge with force this black day that they have brought upon Israel and its people, he says further.

He also says that Israel will take revenge if any of the Israeli prisoners taken by Hamas are harmed.

Several hundred died

At least 70 people have been killed in Palestinian attacks against Israel on Saturday, according to the rescue service. At the same time, the Israeli media N12 reports that at least 100 Israelis have been killed.

On Saturday evening, Israeli TV reports that at least 200 Israelis have been killed.

Israel’s Ministry of Health says over 1,100 people have been injured.

In the Gaza Strip, almost 200 have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, according to Palestinian health authorities.

Will cut power supply

Israel will cut its electricity supply to the Gaza Strip, says Energy Minister Israel Katz, according to the Reuters news agency.

The residents of the Gaza Strip depend on electricity supplies from Israel and have for a long time had major challenges with electricity shortages.

– I have signed an order instructing the Israel Electric Company to stop the electricity supply to Gaza, says Katz in a statement on Saturday evening.

The UN Security Council is holding a crisis meeting on the situation on Sunday.
