A Hamas official said that a delegation from it is heading to Cairo today, Friday, to present comments on an Egyptian initiative that stipulates a ceasefire that would end the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
The movement’s official told Agence France-Presse that a high-level delegation from Hamas’ political bureau will head to Cairo on Friday to hold meetings with officials in Egypt and to inform the response of the Palestinian factions, which includes a set of observations.
He added: “The factions have a number of points and observations regarding the exchange of prisoners, the numbers of Palestinian prisoners to be released, and guarantees of complete military withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.”
An official Egyptian source confirmed last Tuesday that what is being discussed regarding an Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is a preliminary proposal and an integrated position will be developed after Cairo obtains the approval of all parties.
On the same day, informed Egyptian sources reported that an Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo to discuss the position of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements regarding concluding a new truce agreement to exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
The previous Sunday, a delegation from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement arrived in Egypt, headed by the movement’s Secretary-General, Ziad al-Nakhalah. This visit came to discuss the current situation in the Gaza Strip.
