Hamas and Islamic Jihad reject Egyptian proposal to end Gaza war, CNN reports

(CNN) – Reuters reported, citing two Egyptian security sources, that the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements rejected a plan proposed by Egypt to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

Reuters said that two officials from Hamas and Islamic Jihad denied the information provided by Egyptian sources.

CNN foreign policy analyst Barak Ravid said, “The Egyptian proposal relates to the release of all Israeli hostages from Gaza as well as Palestinians from Israeli prisons, Hamas relinquishing power and establishing a technocratic government in Gaza.”

CNN did not independently obtain a copy of the plan.

Reuters reported that Egyptian sources said that “Hamas and Islamic Jihad refused to make any concessions other than the possibility of releasing more hostages who were taken during the October 7 attack.”

Izzat Al-Rishq, a member of the Hamas political bureau, said in a statement that the movement had no information about the Reuters report, and added: “We reaffirm that there cannot be negotiations without a comprehensive cessation of aggression.”

He continued: “The Hamas leadership seeks a permanent cessation of aggression and massacres against our people, which wants to see this aggression stopped completely, and does not want to wait for a temporary or partial truce for a short period, after which aggression and terrorism will return.”

CNN contacted Egyptian officials to comment on the aforementioned plan.
