343 Industries has expanded the collection in a variety of ways by adopting a successful live service model. The developer also avoided microtransactions on this journey, but this decision led to the end of support for the project, according to the latest rumors.
The latest information comes from Halo content creator Rebs Gaming. This user has previously leaked information about Halo Infinite and its many game modes, citing sources such as former developers.
In their latest video, Rebs Gaming appears to confirm that support for Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been discontinued permanently, stating that the main reason for the decision was the lack of microtransactions in the game.
Despite its popularity, the game has not received a major update since July 2023. The report suggests that Microsoft did not consider the project profitable without a constant stream of revenue.
This meant that work on the project was curtailed before July 2023. Microsoft gave many developers the opportunity to switch to developing Halo Infinite, but it seems 343 Industries wasn’t too happy with the announcement.
The studio still wanted to support Halo: The Master Chief Collection, but Microsoft’s concerns about the looming recession coupled with the lack of lucrative microtransactions meant the developer had little to no say in the matter.
Rebs Gaming claims that a small team at 343 Industries is still supporting the game behind the scenes, but most of the studio has moved on to Halo Infinite. However, he confirms that Microsoft is not ruling out returning to this collection in the future.
