It is with great sadness and heavy heart that Halmstads BK announces that our hero, Tommy “Hacke” Andersson, has passed away suddenly. Tommy “Hacke” Andersson leaves an imprint on the history of the club that cannot be measured in words. He was a role model and leader, both on and off the pitch. Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
Tommy “Hacke” Andersson began his journey with HBK in 1986 after a trial match thanks to advice from Tommy Frejdh. Coach Kenneth Rosén saw the potential immediately, and soon after Andersson left GIF Tidaholm to become part of the HBK family. His early years were marked by hard work and determination, and when he entered the game from scratch under Stuart Baxter in 1988, Tommy “Hacke” Andersson began to establish himself as one of the driving forces at the club.
For almost a decade, he was a rock in HBK’s defense, often as a center back alongside names like Ulf “Puh” Jönsson, Jim Norlander and later Rasmus Svensson. Under the leadership of Mats Jingblad in 1992, he became part of the four-back line that laid the foundation for the club’s defensive strength. When Jesper Mattsson joined in 1995, the two were one of the Allsvenskan’s most respected centre-back pairings, and their work continued, among other things, in the gold cup that same year.
Tommy “Hacke” Andersson also made a name for himself as an ice-cold penalty shooter and played an important role in several memorable games. His goal against Trelleborg in the golden year of 1997, where he decided with the only goal of the game, is one of many examples of his winning victories. His last game in an HBK jersey was the historic golden match against Ljungskile SK, a victory that will forever be associated with the club’s greatest victories.
After his active career, Tommy “Hacke” Andersson continued his commitment to Halmstads BK and football. He was a youth leader in Alets IK and active on the HBK board for several periods. His passion and willingness to give back to football and the bond is a legacy we all carry with us.
Tommy “Hacke” Andersson leaves a void behind him, but also a legacy of strength, club spirit and love for football that will live on for generations. Halmstads BK is very grateful for everything he did and his memory will always be remembered and respected.
Rest in peace, Hack. Your place in HBK’s heart is forever given.
