It was when Halmstads BK played 1-1 with AIK last round that Marko Johansson saw red.
After the home team at Friends Arena equalized on a penalty with 20 minutes remaining, the HBK keeper would prevent a quick kick-off. He ended up attacking home players and in the chaos he laid a hook leg. In addition, he was involved in a major brawl that broke out – resulting in an expulsion.
Now it is clear that the 25-year-old is being punished for his brain drain.
The Swedish Football Association’s disciplinary board announces that Johansson will receive a three-match suspension in addition to the automatic one. This means that the keeper, who is on loan from Hamburg until the turn of the year, misses the Allsvenskan final against Hammarby.
Should he remain in HBK after the loan agreement expires, he will also miss the opening two matches in the Swedish Cup group stage next year. The suspension also applies if he goes to another Swedish club participating in the tournament.
“After taking note of the report, opinion and match video, the Disciplinary Committee states that what happened must be punished with a suspension. The length of the suspension is determined according to the committee’s practice and corresponds to three matches in addition to the automatic one,” says the SvFF’s decision, which Fotbollskanalen has seen .
“As for the imposition of the suspension, in line with the Disciplinary Committee’s established practice and sporting justice, it shall be imposed at the next competition. The Disciplinary Committee has therefore taken into account Halmstad’s remaining match in the Allsvenskan as well as upcoming matches in the Swedish Cup”.
Johansson was remorseful after what happened.
– There are a lot of emotions involved and it is clear that what happened is difficult. Now it arose and I take it upon myself. I put the team in a bad position that I didn’t want. I have apologized to my teammates, the leaders and Halmstad’s supporters, said the HBK goalkeeper after the match.
The decision can be appealed to the National Sports Board.
