Pisa, 6 November 2024 – At the Pisano Center for Permanent Culture – Adult University (Uni.De.A.) of Pisa, Dr. Roberto Azzonespecialist in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, conducted, in October, a series of lessons on the conservative and surgical treatment of hallux valgus and knee osteoarthritis. The lessons were held with wide participation and interest given the topicality of the topics.
The surgeon listed the most current conservative and surgical treatments for both hallux valgus and knee osteoarthritis. During the lessons, the orthopedist Roberto Azzone illustrated how to prevent and delay hallux valgus and what the symptoms and reasons are that lead the patient to surgical treatment. Various surgical techniques have been explained, the most current and suitable, depending on the severity of the hallux valgus. He also explained how to slow down knee arthrosis and therefore postpone any arthroplasty with various methods, including lifestyle, medical therapies for pain, infiltrative methods with hyaluronic acid, platelet gel and mesenchymal stem cells.
The specialist or healthcare provider has clearly clarified when to intervene surgically in knee arthrosis and which is the most suitable prosthesis to implant on the patient, “personalizing” it from case to case. It also introduced the concept, made reality, of ‘robot assisted’ prosthesis implantation. Last but not least, the “management” and the post-surgery rehabilitation protocol for individual cases of hallux valgus and knee prosthesis were discussed. There were many questions and interventions from the participants which confirmed the interest and relevance of the pathologies exposed.
The lessons on orthopedic problems treated by Dr. Roberto Azzone of the Pisan University Hospital are part of the multifunctional program conceived and carried out by the Uni.De.A. to organize courses, conferences and meetings on topics of general interest or current affairs. Precisely the relevance of the lessons and the motto that ‘culture has no age’ explain the great turnout and interest on the part of city users towards the various topics at the Uni.De.A. of Pisa.
