Halloween is celebrated on October 31, a popular tradition in the United States that over time has gained notoriety in Mexico. And many Mexicans enjoy dressing up as fearsome characters from popular culture or horror movies to give or ask for candy; Others choose to replicate outfits of iconic characters (they don’t necessarily have to be scary) to meet with their closest friends or loved ones.
The origin of this celebration dates back to the Celts, mainly in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France, as they used to celebrate a pagan festival called Samhain on November 1. This consisted of making bonfires, listening to music and dancing to reflect on the passage of time, the transition of the seasons of the year and honor the dead.
Later, the date was changed to October 31 and became known as All Hallows’ Eve or All Hallows’s Evening.

Like other traditions, this holiday underwent several changes until it became consolidated as the Halloween we know today. It is a popular tradition in several European countries, as well as in the United States and Latin America.
