Half of the people in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, believe that the postponed Olympics, which were scheduled to take place this summer, should not take place next year, a poll conducted by Kyodo News and Tokyo MX reported on Monday.

Both organizations conducted the survey from June 26 to 28, receiving 1,030 responses.

The results of the survey show that 51.7% of respondents express hope that the Olympics will not take place next year or will be postponed for another year. In turn, 46.3% of respondents have indicated that they would like the four-year event to take place.

Of those who indicated that they did not want the Olympics to take place, 27.7% hoped that they would be canceled altogether, while 24% hoped that they would be postponed again.

On the other hand, those who expressed the opposite opinion in 31.1% of cases indicated that games should take place on a smaller scale without spectators. 15.2% are ready to see the full spectrum of games.

The possibility that the Olympics will be postponed for another year is almost non-existent, as the representatives of Japan and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have already made it clear that the Olympic Games will not be postponed, as this will make the rest of the competition immeasurably difficult. Financial and logistical issues would also pose serious problems.

Meanwhile, another poll has revealed that the current governor of Tokyo, Juriko Koike, is likely to be re-elected for another term on July 5. Koike has previously been actively involved in hosting the Olympics and said in a conversation with AFP news agency last month that the Olympics will be held at 120%.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will take place next summer from July 23 to August 8, or the same time period as this summer.

Since 1948, the Summer Olympics have been held every four years. Although the Olympic Games experienced boycotts, terrorist attacks and protests, they were never postponed, but this time the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the world will prevent athletes from gathering in Tokyo this summer.

In the history of the world, only three Olympic Games have been canceled so far, and in all cases it was due to war.
