Half of People Who Come to Psychologists Feel Lonely during the Pandemic

During the pandemic, all people in the world face challenges due to limited distances to prevent transmission of the corona virus. Meetings are mostly held virtually, and it is very difficult to hold face-to-face meetings in large groups. This condition certainly makes someone frustrated and complains.

Psychologist and Chair of the Indonesian Association of Clinical Psychologists, Indria Laksmi Gamayanti said that today’s society is faced with various life pressures due to

the Covid-19 pandemic. Fear of catching the virus, being affected by the economy, having difficulty adapting to new life patterns, and feeling lonely.

An interim report that there are as many as 14,619 individuals who have accessed services provided by clinical psychologists, both adults and children, who claim to have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. As many as 57.6 percent of Indonesians who carry out self-examination

conducted by the Association of Indonesian Mental Medicine Specialists (PDSKJI), identified as having depressive symptoms due to the Covid-19 pandemic condition.

“We, from clinical psychologists, have collected data. The highest number of them complained of mood disorders anxiety or mood swings. Tend to be depressed, have trouble sleeping and lonely too, ”he explained in the AIA Share The Love webinar, Tuesday (20/10).

According to Gama, this situation is comprehensive and must be resolved together. According to him, stress is a natural reaction in an unnatural situation in the era of a pandemic.

“Having relationships with loved ones with our friends is also a bit difficult to meet and makes us lonely. So it is necessary to develop innovation. For example, I usually hang out in cafes, now I drink coffee virtually from each place but still connected, ”he said smiling.

According to him, a simple solution in overcoming mental problems is to interact with the closest trusted person. Then do something positive and make your heart happy.

“How to find friends to express feelings, so that the burdens within us can feel lighter. Or by cooking, singing, yoga, and others, “he explained.

The same thing was also expressed by the Head of Customer Office AIA Kathryn Monika Parapak. He claims, the Share The Love program campaign can be a movement to share love

in the form of soul protection. So that it is expected to make a social contribution with a positive impact in the community, where currently people must continue to adapt to pandemic conditions that change their lifestyle and must be separated from their loved ones.

“How can Share The Love be given to one loved one. By finding a solution, millions of families in Indonesia are living healthier, longer, better lives, by staying connected and being calmer and avoiding anxiety, “said Kathryn.
