456 thousand doses have been set for January, and 353,000 since the 6th, when the Prime Minister set it as a goal.

For the first time in the omicron wave, 6,000 people in hospital are approaching, but the growth of new infections is slowing down on a weekly basis

Nearly half a million vaccines have been given in Bulgaria since the New Year. Thus, the goal set by the government turned out to be almost fulfilled.

In fact, 140,000 doses separate them from the ambitious plan to vaccinate another 500,000 people by the end of January. It was announced on 6.01. by Deputy Minister of Health Georgi Yordanov after a meeting of the National Pandemic Committee, established by order of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov. And from that date until January 31, 353,409 needles were inserted.

However, the total doses for the month are 456,860. Or only 43,000 are not enough for the set goal. Yes

already over 2 million Bulgarians have been fully vaccinated

Most people have been immunized in Pirogov. In 2021, 53,215 people passed through its vaccination center. The point there was opened in January last year, the doses placed in it and in the hospital reached 75,000.

Since the New Year alone, 10,400 vaccines have been made, nearly 7,000 of them in booster doses. From December 22

1250 children aged 5 to 11 were vaccinated in Pirogov.

Against this background, however, for the first time since the rise of the omicron wave, the number of hospitalized patients with COVID approached 6,000.

Of these, 565 are the most severe cases, which are treated in intensive care units.

According to the map of the epidemic situation, which takes into account the occupancy of intensive care beds – a factor for possible tightening of measures, only one region is in the second stage. The other three are in stage 3.

There is no drastic change in the percentage of newly infected – 26% are positive tests of 35 thousand made in the last day. On a weekly basis there is a slight decrease (by 5%) in the average incidence for the country, which is currently 1739 per 100 thousand people.

“Things are going quite well, the number of newly infected is large, but is beginning to decline. This week the trend will be broken “, the mathematician Nikolay Vitanov reassured in front of Nova TV.

According to the professor, in order to get out of the peak, however, the occupancy of hospital beds and the mortality curve must be broken. A new 87 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

It is expected to rise for another 10 days

the number of hospitalized, Vitanov predicts.

After that, according to him, the incidence is likely to fall below 5,000 new infections a day. And then the issue of revoking the green certificate will begin to be considered.

Mortality is expected

to be below 1% “, added the mathematician.

According to him, 10% of the Bulgarian population has already encountered omicron. This explains why everyone knows someone who has been infected.

Prof. Vitanov reminded that the real number of infected people is calculated by multiplying the officially registered ones by a certain coefficient. And he gave an example – if there are 9,000 registered for a day, another 20,000 must be added in order to have the real picture.
