Romanian number one Simona Simona Halepová advanced to the semifinals at a tennis tournament in Rome. Her quarterfinal rival Julia Putineva from Kazakhstan clashed the match at 2: 6, 0: 2 due to back problems.

For the third final participation in the Italian Open, Halep will play with the winner of the match between the Spanish Garbiňa Muguruza and the Belarusian Victoria Azarenkova. The world number two unsuccessfully fought for the title in Rome in 2017 and 2018, last year she lost in the second round with Markéta Vondroušová.
Halepová plays the first tournament after a month’s break, before which she triumphed at the Prague Open in Stromovka.

Defending champion Karolína Plíšková will also compete for the semifinals in the Italian capital today against the Belgian Elisa Mertensová and Vondroušová in a duel with the Ukrainian Elina Svitolinová.
