Earthquake a magnitude (M) 7.2 occurred in Haiti. The death toll from the earthquake jumped to 227 people.
As reported by AFP, Sunday (15/8/2021), the victim died as a result of Haiti earthquake initially recorded 29 people. Moments later the death toll reportedly jumped to 227 people.
158 of the dead were found on the southern side of the country.
“The death toll from the earthquake has risen to 227, including 158 in the south,” said the country’s Civil Protection Agency, near the epicenter.
Meanwhile, the Civil Protection Agency added that hundreds more were injured and still missing.
To note, Haiti was rocked by an earthquake measuring 7.2 M. Earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be 8 kilometers from the town of Petit Trou de Nippes or just 150 kilometers from the capital, Port-au-Prince.
The US Tsunami Warning System initially issued a tsunami warning after the earthquake. But now the tsunami warning has been lifted.
