Haiti’s acting prime minister resigns

A new government will be inaugurated on Tuesday, according to a government spokesman.

Ariel Henry will take over as prime minister and run the government, and Joseph will return to his previous role as foreign minister. According to Haiti’s Minister of Elections Mathias Pierre, the country’s future government is still being negotiated.

Claude Joseph confirmed to The Washington Post Monday that he has agreed to resign and hand over power to his challenger Henry, who has received support from the international community following the July 7 assassination attempt on Moïse. Moïse was shot and killed by unknown perpetrators who entered his home.

Henry was appointed by Moïse as the new prime minister two days before the president’s death.
