Haitian singer Mikaben dies on the stage of the Accor Arena in Bercy

Haitian singer Mikaben died on stage on Saturday evening 15 October during a concert in Paris-Bercy. At 41 he was invited to sing by the legendary Haitian group Carimi in front of 10,000 people.

A few minutes before taking the stage, the singer showed signs of fatigue. The emergency services provided a heart massage to the artist, who did not feel well during the concert. He couldn’t be revived.

The premier of Haiti also reacted immediately to the announcement of Michael Benjamin’s death. “The country and the Haitian youth have lost a beautiful soul”writes Ariel Henry on Twitter. “It’s a great reference to Haitian music that has just died out.”

The concert was highly anticipated by fans. Six years after their separation, the members of Carimi found themselves on the stage of the Accor Arena in Paris, where they had invited singer Michael Benjamin for the occasion. Together, they were supposed to celebrate the group’s 20th anniversary.
