Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry Announces Establishment of Presidential Council, Government to Step Down for Political Transition

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced in a video the establishment of a presidential council, thus marking the end of his government. This decision taken by the Council of Ministers on Monday evening aims to enable a more stable and peaceful political transition for the country.

“The resigning government will step down as soon as a new prime minister and presidential council are installed,” Dr Henry said. In the meantime, the government team will continue to take care of the day-to-day affairs of the state.

The Prime Minister also appealed to the population to maintain serenity and redouble their efforts to restore peace and stability in the country as quickly as possible. “It is essential to make sacrifices for the good of Haiti,” he stressed.

Finally, Ariel Henry expressed his gratitude to the Haitian people for allowing him to serve the Republic during the last 30 months as Prime Minister. He also strongly condemned the recent assassinations that occurred in Port-au-Prince in recent weeks.
