On the day of the murder, Henry is said to have had two telephone conversations with prime suspect Joseph Felix Badio, who worked in an anti-corruption unit at the Justice Department. Badio was near the presidential residence at the time of those talks, location data shows. Henry admitted to knowing the suspect, but said he didn’t believe Badio was guilty. Badio is now on the run.

The prosecutor had asked Henry last weekend to explain his relationship to Badio in court. The prosecution did not have the authority to summon the Prime Minister to court, but nevertheless he decided to invite Henry. The prime minister called the invitation a “distraction tactic.” According to him, the request would prevent the real perpetrators from being punished.

Hours after the prosecutor’s invitation reached the prime minister, he had already been fired. “I am pleased to inform you that it has been decided to terminate your position,” the prime minister wrote in a publicly available letter.
