As part of the initiatives aimed at reforming the education sector, the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) has started various works with a view to achieving a curriculum reform in basic and secondary education. One of the recent actions concerns a series of consultations conducted by the Department of Curriculum and Quality (DCQ) of the ministry with a view to developing a Curriculum Orientation Framework (COC), under the leadership of the holder of the MENFP, Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet and the coordination of the general manager, Dr. Meniol Jeune. This activity was carried out with the support of the MENFP NECTAR Project, funded by French cooperation.

Thus, a basic document has been designed and a validation process is underway so that the COC becomes a public policy document of the MENFP. It is with this in mind that the General Directorate of MENFP brought together the main managers of the Technical Departments with a view to carrying out the first phase of internal validation of the COC.
Held in the conference room of the General Inspectorate of the Ministry, this working session, held on December 29, 2020, both online and in person, enabled the main officials of the MENFP to learn about it and produce some comments and suggestions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of this meeting, the Director General, Dr. Meniol Jeune, underlined that the curriculum orientation framework (COC) is intended to be the political reference document for the reform. The final objective is to support the actors who propose to intervene in the reform of education curricula in Haiti.
For her part, the coordinator of the education and quality pole at the MENFP, Ms. Rosalie Laramé Josma, specified that the COC indicates clear avenues of solution to the problems of multidisciplinarity of study programs and internal inconsistency between purposes, curricula, curriculum and teaching. It is a modern tool, according to her, which formalizes the link between education and development and specifies the general framework for conducting curriculum reforms in a country.
The Director of Curriculum and Quality, Aky Alix Nicolas, speaking on behalf of the finalization committee, presented the main elements taken from the 70-page document. A presentation that allowed participants to fully understand the foundations of the curriculum, its elements, the process of evaluation and certification of learning, teacher training and the scheduling of disciplines.
The COC review committee took note of the various proposals and remarks with a view to harmonizing the views of internal stakeholders before approaching a larger group of external partners for the social validation of this policy document. This will be the second phase of the ongoing validation process. The meeting should be held shortly, during the month of January 2021, with a view to finalizing the COC text before its official publication.
