Haiti was shaken on Saturday by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on the Richter scale, which killed at least 29 people and caused extensive damage, authorities said.

However, officials have acknowledged that the death toll could be much higher.

The earthquake destroyed many buildings, as well as caused other damage.

A widespread warning of a possible tsunami.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was about 125 kilometers west of the capital, Port-au-Prince, while the hypocenter was 10 kilometers deep.

In January 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Haiti killed more than 200,000 people and caused severe damage.
