The national hairdressing federation Febelhair reacts disgruntled to a statement by the CEO of Horeca Vlaanderen. Matthias De Caluwe said on Saturday that there can be no other relaxation if the catering industry is not allowed to open in May. “As a sector, we do not wish to be involved in such blackmail,” says Febelhair chairman Charles-Antoine Huybrechts.

On Wednesday, the Consultation Committee will meet about the corona measures. Corona Commissioner Pedro Facon will advise the Consultation Committee to reopen the cafés and restaurants by mid-May at the earliest. Until now, it was expected that going out for dinner or a drink would be possible again on May 1. “We better not go too fast now,” Facon told De Tijd on Saturday.

Topman of Horeca Vlaanderen Mathias De Caluwe immediately responded that there can be no question of other relaxation if the catering industry is not allowed to open. “The experts indicated that it was mathematically possible,” he said. And now comes this point of view. It is up to the Consultation Committee to make decisions on Wednesday, which is the body where choices are made. It seems to us that – if the figures are still not good – there will be no other easing until April 26, in order to give our catering industry the chance for a sustainable recovery. ”

“Blackmail”

Febelhair shares the concerns of Horeca Vlaanderen, but believes that it is not up to them to decide on other sectors. “As a sector, we do not wish to be involved in such blackmail,” said chairman Charles-Antoine Huybrechts. “The hairdressing sector is already having a hard time and there is no doubt about it for Febelhair. The improper closure must be urgently reversed. In any case, the hairdressing salons have to reopen on April 26. There is no evidence whatsoever that hairdressers are responsible for the increasing number of infections ”, it says.

“With the ‘My Safe Salon’ campaign, Febelhair has mobilized the hairdressers as much as possible to strictly follow the corona measures. The inspections by the FPS Public Health and the FPS Economy have shown that our hairdressers are exemplary students. Under no circumstances do we wish to be the plaything of Horeca Vlaanderen ”, Febelhair concludes.
