British DJ Robert Etheridge, known as Dimension, has apologized to New Zealanders. He recently tested positive for corona and turned out to have the omikron variant among the members. After a period of ten days in quarantine, he had gone out in the country without waiting for the results of the last corona test taken from him on day 9 of the quarantine. It turned out to be positive, but by then Etheridge had already plunged into Auckland’s nightlife.
The DJ was the first case of omikron identified within the community in New Zealand. Etheridge had traveled to the country to perform at a festival on New Year’s Eve. He was first in a quarantine hotel for a week and then in self-isolation for another three days.
Etheridge says he’s sorry. He acknowledges that he posed a risk to people. He would not have waited for the test result due to a misunderstanding. The DJ emphasizes that he had previously tested negative three times and that he no longer counted on getting a positive result. Etheridge has deleted a number of posts from his social media after receiving some hateful comments.
Minister Chris Hipkins, who has corona policy in his portfolio, said earlier that he was disappointed in Etheridge.
