Hailey Bieber is being sued for allegedly infringing the brand name of another company with the name of her facial care line. Designer duo Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers have been using the name Rhode since 2014 and disagree that Bieber is now using it, reports TMZ.
Rhode is the second name of the 25-year-old model and under that name she wanted to start her own brand. “We understand that this is her middle name, but you can’t just claim and register a name if it is already being used by another party. She already tried to buy the brand name from my clients in 2018, but they refused.” says Khatau and Vickers’ lawyer.
“Yet Hailey has gone ahead with the idea of creating her Rhode brand. Now she is damaging a company run by two women who belong to minorities in the United States,” the attorney said.
The two women feel they need to protect their business. “We are not out to harm Hailey, we also want to honor her as a woman. But we are a young and growing company and cannot afford for a celebrity like Hailey to run off with our brand name and sell similar products .”
“We’ve worked so hard for this and Hailey can come up with any name she wants, she has the money and fame she needs. We can’t just change our name, it would cost us too much money.”
