Hail Mary, Escape, I’m Not That and The Williams » Film Academy

After passing through the Locarno Festival – where it obtained the Special Jury Mention – and Seminci, it arrives in cinemas Hail Marythe new movie Mar Collstarring Laura Weissmahr –winner of the Espiga de la Plata for Best Actress in Valladolid–, along Oriol Pla. They complete the cast Giannina Fruttero, Magali Heu, Sam Avtaev, Julie Maes y Belen Cruz.

The Catalan filmmaker is inspired by the novel Mothers don’t of Katixa Aguirre to narrate a drama with overtones of thriller psychological. Co-written with Valentina Visothe film addresses the tension and complexity of fragile motherhood.

In the director’s words: “Motherhood has been so underrepresented and so partial in an often syrupy light, that any dissonant experience has been buried by taboo. Synopsis

Maria, a young writer who has just become a mother, comes across the news of a shocking event: a French woman has drowned her 10-month-old twins in the bathtub. Maria becomes obsessed with the infanticide, why did she kill them? From that moment on, the shadow of infanticide will stalk her as a dizzying possibility.

Escape, the new movie Rodrigo Cortesstarring Mario Casas and with executive production by Martin Scorsesehits movie theaters. Together with Casas, they complete the cast with actors and actresses such as Anna Castillo, José Sacristán, Josep María Pou, Blanca Portillo, Guillermo Toledo, Juanjo Puigcorbé, David Lorente, José García and the singer-songwriter Albert Pla.

In the words of Rodrigo Cortés, “working with the crew of Escape It has been a gift: no matter how uncertain the waters are, it is difficult to shipwreck like this. This audiovisual project is the filmmaker’s first film in Spanish since his feature debut with the black comedy Contestantwhich was followed by Buriedstarring Ryan Reynolds.

Rodrigo Cortés, also responsible for the script, has made a free adaptation of the novel of the same name by the Spanish writer Enrique Rubio.

Synopsis

The script is co-written by Olga Iglesias y Maria Ripoll. “It was a story that the screenwriter had been working on for a long time. We all feel, sometimes, a little bad about new technologies and I believed it was necessary to tell this story. I have relied a lot on the text and the actors, always talking about real people, and not thinking about the character or the cliché,” commented the director during the presentation press conference in Malaga.

For Ripoll, the cast of the film is important because, “I had already worked with Verónica Echegui, but when Silma López appeared at the casting we had it clear, because they are the film.”

Synopsis

Susana (Echegui) wakes up after 20 years in a coma. Now she is a teenager in a lady’s body in the 21st century. Susana will have to navigate a world in which nothing is familiar to her and she will have to learn to live in it.

The Williams is the filmmaker’s new documentary Raul de la Fuentestarring Iñaki y Nico Williams. Synopsis
