Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Famous businessman, one of the richest people in the world, and founder of the electric car company listed on the Nasdaq Exchange, Tesla Inc, Elon Musk clears up the issue of his family’s ownership of an emerald mine in Zambia, Africa.
As quoted by Tesla Rati, in 2018, Musk was rumored to own a mine in the African country by a satirical publication site called The Onion.
They shared an article on Twitter entitled “The Richest People In Every State and How They Make Money.”
In tweet According to The Onion, the richest man in Texas is Elon Musk, who made money through the apartheid system that was in effect in South Africa in the early 20th century to 1990.
Musk also reacted, and denied the article. Musk, to be more precise quipped the news site that it is appropriate for readers to turn to rival satirical news site, The Babylon Bee.
“You’re embarrassed, Onion. This is why people turn to @TheBabylonBee !,” Musk wrote on his Twitter account.
In 2018, Elon Musk and his family were linked to apartheid in South Africa after Business Insider published an article stating that CEO Tesla’s father owned half of the emerald mines in Zambia.
However, Business Insider admits that they themselves have never linked the Musk family to apartheid. This narrative was later developed on Twitter.
Aparteid itself is a racial segregation system developed by whites in South Africa. This system gave non-whites less authority and rights than whites. This system was dissolved in 1991 by President Frederik Willem de Kerk.
