Guatemalan goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen will continue to be part of the Columbus Crew after confirming that the team exercised the option to renew his contract. This move, announced as part of the final roster decisions for the 2025 season, reinforces the coaching staff’s confidence in Hagen, who has established himself as an important piece on the squad.
During the 2024 season, Hagen proved his worth with outstanding performances in four MLS matches, facing teams such as Real Salt Lake, Charlotte FC, Atlanta United and New York Red Bulls. Their participation also included three matches in the League Cup (where they were champions), where they faced Kansas City, Inter Miami and Los Angeles FC. Additionally, he had minutes in the MLS Next Pro, defending the goal against New York Red Bull II.
The Columbus Crew today announced their 2024 end-of-season roster decisions. The Black & Gold have exercised the options of six players.

Hagen will continue in MLS
Hagen’s continuity is part of a Columbus Crew strategic plan to maintain a balance between experience and youth in its squad. With a solid base of players already contracted for 2025 and the renewal of key pieces like Hagen, the team seeks to establish itself as a contender in the MLS. The Guatemalan will share the goal with Abraham Romero and Patrick Schulte, in a competition that promises to raise the level of the group.
For Hagen, this renewal represents an opportunity to continue growing in one of the most competitive leagues in America. His stay with the Columbus Crew not only reinforces his international career, but also positions him as an ambassador of Guatemalan football, inspiring new generations of goalkeepers in his native country.
