Claudia Ghazzini, an expert on Libyan affairs at the International Crisis Group, said that Haftar is under US pressure to sever his ties with the Russians, and that he is not trying to take additional steps that reveal further rapprochement with Moscow.
In a report published on the British BBC, Ghazzini warned that the fragile military and political situation in Libya may be affected or disrupted if the fighting continues in Sudan and regional or international parties are involved in the transfer of arms to Sudan via Libya.
Ghazzini added that field developments in the Sudanese arena may make the idea of getting rid of foreign fighters in Libya more difficult, especially as fighters from the Rapid Support Forces have flowed into Libya.
Ghazzini confirmed that there has been an open line for smuggling fuel from the east and south of the country to Rapid Support for months, at a time when both sides are keen to preserve this profitable trade, which brings great gains to the leaders of the east of the country, according to her.
