Haferlfest: jousting and torch swimming – news

As promised, the Haferlfest program will follow. It was only published yesterday. The street on the north-eastern bank of the Ilzu will be a party mile for three days with live music and delicacies.

It begins today with a musical prelude on the Haferlfest stage. At 6 p.m. guitarist Fritz Koller picks up the strings, then four musicians from the Allgäu, the acoustic cover band “Hanglage”, take over. “Look forward to everyone who drinks a beer against the heat with us,” they write on their website. At 11 p.m., the sound and lights go out.

Tomorrow, Friday, from 4.30 p.m., the official start with the historic ceremony. The Lord Mayor is picked up by boat from Rathausplatz and taken to the Festufer. The Ilzer Perle, whose role this year is played by Lisa Rohmann, the daughter of the head of the festival committee, arrives. The musical accompaniment of the first day of the festival will be provided by musicians whose hometown can be called a pearl on the Ilz, the Halser Musikanten.

On Saturday afternoon from 5.30 p.m. it’s all about games, fun and sport. In the jousting, a kind of jousting on the water, prominent faces compete. The drinks and snack bars are open from 4 p.m. At 8 p.m. the band of the day, “Bavaria 5”, will take the stage. The light spectacle begins at 10 p.m.: torch swimmers in the water, lasers in the sky. Wolfgang Hinterdobler came up with the musical light show. Tattoo is at midnight.

On Sunday, the day begins for the faithful with a festival service in the Ilz parish church of St. Bartholomäus; then it’s off to the classic morning pint on the festival mile, to which the music community Grubweg plays. At 2 p.m. Quitschentchen swim for a good cause on the Ilz. Jazz from the group “Macapeo” will be heard from 5 p.m. The three-day festival ends at midnight.

The Haferlfest was founded in 1887, 135 years ago, by the painter Ferdinand Wagner, who lived in the Niederhaus, and the judge Anton Niederleuther. It used to take place in July, but was moved to August due to the density of events in July. It was originally a harbor festival, the fishing village was probably a busy landing place for ferries and boats. With the flood control after the flood of 1954, the charm of the proximity to the river was lost. Today, the Ilz is hardly visible from street level, a four-lane asphalt road separates the settlement from the water. The festival takes place in its eastern section, which is closed to traffic these days.
