Had waited 24 years – the dog ruined everything

Sunday, February 26, is the final of the English League Cup between Newcastle and Manchester United at Wembley.

It is Newcastle’s first cup final in 24 years and Alan Carling, who is a big fan of the Premier League club, had bought tickets for the game.

But Saturday turned into a double nightmare for Alan.

First he was forced to watch Newcastle, unbeaten at home so far this season, lose to Liverpool 0–2 at St James’ Park.

And when he got home, everything got even worse.

The dog tore the tickets to pieces

While Alan was out watching the match, the final tickets were delivered to his home. The only one at home when the letter with the tickets steamed down through the letter drop was Alan’s dog Rudy.

“The little devil Rudy considers anything that comes through the mail drop to be an invasion of his home. Came home from watching Newcastle lose at home for the first time this season against Liverpool after conceding two goals and having their goalkeeper sent off in the first half”, writes Alan on Facebook next to pictures of torn pieces of paper on the hall carpet and continues:

Rudy figured he’d cheer me up by eating the Wembley tickets delivered through the letter drop while I was out.

“Dog for sale for five pounds”

Alan concludes by writing with a twinkle in his eye:

“Dog for sale for five pounds.”

Several who commented on the post suspect that either the postman or the dog does not belong in Newcastle.

Others question the veracity of it all.

One person writes that it’s better to have your heart broken now than on Sunday – and Alan has to hope that the person in question doesn’t have a point. When Newcastle played their last cup final, the FA Cup final on 22 May 1999, they lost to Manchester United.
