Had Africa as a country of birth in the National Register. It caused passport problems for Norway’s former Minister of Development.

At least 7,000 Norwegian citizens have an unknown country of birth in the National Population Register. When Hilde Frafjord Johnson applied for a new passport, the police said that she was born in “Africa”.

It was during a visit to the police in Stokke on May 7. Johnson was told that they could not give her a new extra passport, unless she could accept that it said country of birth “unknown” in it.

The check they made of their country of birth in the National Register gave a somewhat surprising result: Africa.
