“Hackers Steal 10TB of Data and Hold Western Digital Hostage”

Jakarta

Hackers breaking into networks Western Digital (WD) is said to have succeeded in stealing 10TB of data and holding the data hostage from WD. Wow!

Reported by TechCrunch, who managed to contact the hacker who spread the ransomware, said the hacker took hostage code-signing certificates, personal WD executive phone numbers, SAP Backoffice data, and even got admin access to WD’s Azure account.

Previously, WD admitted to experiencing a network security incident in early April. In this incident, WD acknowledged that a third party could access data from WD’s system.

As a result of this incident, WD’s cloud network could not be accessed for 10 days, and the My Cloud network only returned online earlier this week, quoted detikINET from The Verge, Saturday (15/4/2023).

According to TechCrunch, the hacker asked for a ransom with a minimum eight-digit value. That amount of money must be paid so that the stolen data is not leaked.

WD has not commented on the situation, but what is clear is that they are coordinating with law enforcement and forensic and cybersecurity experts from outside the company.

According to Western Digital, the burglary that occurred on March 26 disrupted several of its business operations. According to them, the hackers were able to extract certain data from their systems, and Western Digital is still investigating what data was taken and what kind of threats would occur if the data was stolen.

“Western Digital is currently experiencing a service issue impacting the following products: My Cloud, My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo, My Cloud OS5, SanDisk ibi, SanDisk Ixpand Wireless Charger,” Western Digital wrote on April 2.
