The hacker attacks against the American oil company Colonial Pipelines Co have nothing to do with the Russian government.
As US President Joe Biden said on Thursday, the US is convinced that the hackers live in Russia. Biden expressed his hope that he would be able to discuss cybercrime during the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On May 7, hackers encrypted the US company’s computer system and stole secret documents in order to extort ransom money. Colonial Pipelines Co was once forced to shut down all oil delivery systems, which severely affected fuel oil supplies on the eastern coast of the United States.
