Hacker attack at Valve: Half-Life, Portal and Counter-Strike secret files on the net

Valve, the company best known for Steam and CS:GO, was hit by a huge hacker attack. Big trouble.

Recently the PCForum also reported that that a very serious hacker attack hit Valve’s servers, during which secret files of well-known and important games were uploaded to the Internet. Although Valve is best known for Steam, it is also the developer and publisher of successful games such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life or Portal.

An important element of the games has been uploaded to the Internet.

During the leak, of course, not only the mentioned three games, but also secret elements of such titles as the development elements of the early version of Team Fortress 2 or Left 4 Dead were leaked. Recently, a folder of more than 61 GB was released on the Internet, which contains characters, weapons, 3D models, textures, even animations and tracks that appear in the games.

The most interesting part of the whole leak is that the files reveal how the games were built during development, and we can even see elements that didn’t end up in the games.

So far, though, it doesn’t seem like Valve is particularly excited about the leak. It is not yet known what steps are planned, nor how important these older files are to the company. What’s worse is that if these files were stolen, there is probably a very important security hole that could cause serious problems for Valve and even for Steam users.
