After half a year as a coach in 2021, Per-Mathias Högmo received maximum dividends from BK Häcken during last year’s season – and won the club’s first SM gold ever. In January, the Norwegian extended his contract with Hisingsklubben beyond 2024, but the rumors have hardly stopped for that.
During yesterday, the Danish newspaper Hening Folkeblad stated that Högmo is up for the coaching job at FC Midtjylland, which recently got rid of its coach. Information that was also confirmed to some extent by the club’s director Claus Steinlein on Wednesday.
– I always think that a Swedish champion coach will be a subject, just like it is with all other possible coaches, Steinlein told bold.dk.
Someone who read the information was Häcken’s sports director Martin Ericsson.
– The spontaneous thought was… Nothing special. It is not entirely unexpected that there are thoughts about the interests of our players and leaders, considering the success we have had. It’s not the first time, says Ericsson to Fotbollskanalen.
Has Midtjylland contacted you?
– No.
Has there been any other concrete interest in Högmo during the winter?
– Nothing that has come to my table. There are no clubs that have concretely contacted me.
On Wednesday, EkstraBladet writes that Högmo is already in Denmark for “decisive negotiations” with Midtjylland. The soccer channel has been in contact with Häcken, who confirmed that Högmo will lead the training on Wednesday.
Back to Martin Ericsson.
Have you approved of him discussing with Midtjylland?
– I don’t comment on any details about things like this.
– Rumors are always there. A bit like I said about players and leaders: When you do it well, it’s a natural part of our everyday life.
Do you have anything to object to if a coach wants to leave?
– That is always difficult. There are always cases in several different directions, but I will never comment on any individual agreements with us. I probably won’t get involved in any legal matters, it probably won’t be good, says Martin Ericsson.
Do you expect him to coach BK Häcken in the Allsvenskan premiere?
– Yes, he is our coach, so I count on that, concludes the sporting director.
Midtjylland has subscribed to top positions in the Danish league in recent years, but this season the team is in ninth place.
