LAMBARENÉ, August 7, 2023, AGP – The awareness and capacity building seminar for information personnel, organized by the High Authority for Communication (HAC), under the theme “The fundamentals of a free and regulated media ecosystem during an election period”, ended on a note of general satisfaction. At the end of this meeting, several recommendations were made by media actors to HAC, UNOCA and ECCAS..
The seminarians recommended the establishment, around the HAC, of an intersectoral commission open to the international partners responsible for the creation of the school of journalism in Gabon. Then, it was recommended to reform the Department of Information and Communication Sciences within the Omar Bongo University.
With regard to the HAC, the seminarians recommended the institutionalization of a short cycle of capacity building; to promote the involvement and mobilization of journalists for the Gabonese Council for Freedom of Communication, a self-regulatory body; to promote other types of institutions, according to the typology of the media; reflect on the Commission for Equal Access to Public Media, in order to take private media into account; and to organize a casting to choose the hosts of the electoral debates.
The work was closed by the dean of HAC member-advisors, Janvier Nguema Mboumba, in place of the president, and in the presence of the provincial secretary general, Eryll Bertille Roponat Otewa-Mbina.
