Daepyeong district in Dalseong-gun and Paldal district in Buk-gu announced as candidates for the Korea Institute of Industrial Relations
Agricultural and fishery products → Agro-fishery and livestock products wholesale market expansion review… conclusion by June
The city of Daegu has begun establishing a basic plan for the relocation of the agricultural and marine products wholesale market (hereinafter referred to as Maecheon Market) in Maecheon-dong, Buk-gu. As of the 27th, while the candidate sites for relocation have been compressed into two places, the final relocation site for next month will be confirmed early and announced prior to the service results.
On the morning of this day, Daegu City held a briefing session on the feasibility of relocating to Maecheon Market and establishment of a basic plan for distribution workers at the Maecheon Market Management Office. This is the first on-site briefing after the policy was decided to relocate to the Maecheon market.
The Korea Institute of Industrial Relations, which was in charge of the service, announced at this meeting that there are two candidates for the relocation of the Maecheon market: the Daepyeong district of Dalseong-gun (290,753㎡) and the Paldal district of Buk-gu (286,211㎡). This is the result of recommendations for relocation candidates from eight districts since December of last year.
Kim Gyeong-cheol, director of the Institute for Industrial Relations, said, “Paldal district has the advantage of being downtown as it is 1km away from Maecheon market. There are facilities such as a vinyl house and a rainwater pumping station in the site.” It is outskirts. The site consists of a vinyl house and rice fields,” he explained.
The Industrial Relations Research Institute plans to confirm the relocation location after analyzing and evaluating all 20 items, including ▷accessibility, ▷extensibility, ▷possibility of civil complaints, ▷business easiness, and ▷gu-gun economic support, by collecting the opinions of the expert evaluation team.
In addition, the Industrial Relations Research Institute plans to spend 160 million won in service costs for eight months until September to analyze the effects such as economic feasibility of relocating the wholesale market and establish a basic plan for the establishment of a high-tech wholesale market and a comprehensive revitalization plan. Plans to utilize the existing site after relocation are also prepared.
Another reason this service is attracting attention is that it includes a plan to expand into a ‘wholesale market for agricultural, fishery and livestock products’ along with the relocation of the market. While Daegu City decided to close the livestock wholesale market slaughterhouse in Geomdan-dong, Buk-gu, it decided to consider a plan to close the livestock wholesale market and relocate with Maecheon Market.
Daegu City explained that it was difficult to maintain the livestock market due to changes in the surrounding environment, such as a decrease in slaughter volume, aging facilities, and the creation of Kumho Waterpolis.
The tentatively named ‘Daegu Agricultural and Livestock Products Distribution Management Corporation’, which will oversee three wholesale markets including agricultural and marine products, livestock products and herbal medicines, is expected to be launched in September. The target date for the relocation of the Maecheon market is 2031.
Cho Suk-hyeon, head of the Daegu Agricultural Products Distribution Division, said, “We have yet to plan how to organize the new wholesale market, but it can include the livestock industry.” We will find a way to finish the relocation,” he said.
