JAKARTA, iNews.id – MER-C gain the trust of the High Priest of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Habib Rizieq Shihab to carry out health checks and escorts. However, MER-C regretted that Habib Rizieq received unethical treatment and violated the patient’s rights from the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya.
The chairman of the MER-C Presidium, Dr. Sarbini Abdul Murad, assessed that Bima Arya had intervened against the working medical team, thus disturbing patients who were resting in the hospital.
In addition, Bima Arya is also considered to be unethical in publishing the patient’s condition to the public, which causes confusion and unrest for the community.
“The Mayor of Bogor needs to learn medical ethics about the independence of medical personnel in work and the right of patients to accept or reject all attempts at examinations and treatment that will be given without any intervention or pressure from any party,” Sarbini said in a press release quoted from the official website of the Republic of Indonesia. -c.org, Sunday (29/11/2020).
Sarbini gave an example in areas of disaster and war, it is his duty as medical personnel to maintain professionalism and respect the rights of patients.
Supposedly, said Sarbini, Bima Arya as Mayor of Bogot City entrusted this to the hospital and the medical team that handled it, because the medical team knew what steps were necessary and what were not necessary to treat patients.
Furthermore, Sarbini said MER-C had experience in providing medical and health assistance to anyone experiencing critical humanitarian conditions.
According to him, the human concept of MER-C which is Rahmatan Lil Alamin, is independent, maintains neutrality, to help those most in need “The most vulnerable people & the most neglected people” due to conditions of war, injustice, stigmatization, political isolation that cause health and medical problems. .
“MER-C helps anyone regardless of the background of the problem. Call it the GAM Commander, the late Ishak Daud, the Police Commissioner General Susno Duadji, Ust Abu Bakar Baasyir, terrorism suspects, and so on,” said Sarbini.
Sarbini said, health problems in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic often caused polemics, because they were always associated with the corona virus itself. There are often differences in perceptions between the public and health workers in responding to Covid-19.
Stigmatization, lack of empathy and respect for patients’ right to privacy create a large gap between the public and government officials. Therefore, it is necessary to return to professionalism and ethics and medical law that upholds patient rights.
Regarding Habib Rizieq Shihab, MER-C as an independent medical team asked by the family to handle the concerned health, regretted the attitude of Bogor Mayor Bima Arya who intervened and put pressure on the hospital, medical team and patients.

Currently, he said, all examinations that need to be carried out are ongoing and treatment will be carried out according to the health problems found. MER-C also asked all parties not to make noise, maintain patient privacy and entrust the medical team who handled it.
“Regarding conveying health conditions is the domain of the family. Even the hospital / doctor who treats them does not have the right to convey it without the family’s permission,” said Sarbini.
