Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner has revealed that he has already decided who will be Kevin Magnussen’s team-mate for 2023.

Gunther Steiner half-meaning that the final cockpit for 2023 has been delayed because he is a “late decision maker.”

In fact, Gunther Steiner admitted that he and team owner Gene Haas actually made the decision “in the last few days.” An announcement is expected ahead of next weekend’s season finale in Abu Dhabi.

“Expect it to be announced next week,” said Gunther Steiner.

“I won’t tell you the date because everyone is waiting for it. It will be announced next week”.

“We are finalizing the details of what we will do and how we will do it.”

Broadcaster RTL and German newspaper Bild say these “details” concern contract options and payment arrangements from 2023 onwards. .

“I don’t know the driver, but I’ll tell him about what we’re doing,” Steiner said.

Williams is the last chance on the grid for 2023 if 23-year-old Mick Schumacher is released, but the team have already opted for Logan Sargent.

Williams team principal Jost Kapito has said there is a “98% chance” that Logan Sargent will finally secure the much-needed F1 superlicence.

Jost Kapito is therefore saddened by Sebastian Vettel’s retirement at a dark moment in the history of German F1.

“Without German drivers and without German racing, it would be difficult to maintain German interest,” said Joest Capito.

“It’s hard to say how close we are to signing Mick.”

“Logan is a part of our junior academy and deserves the spot.”
