Norway – Northern Ireland, at 20.45 on TV 2. Also follow Dagbladet’s broadcast from 20.30.
ULLEVAAL (Dagbladet): Erling Braut Haaland (20) is on everyone’s lips also in Northern Ireland. That’s what Gary Weaver, the man who will comment on tonight’s match against Norway for Sky Sports, says.
– Everyone was impressed by his performance when Norway won 5-1 in Belfast in September. The way he scores the goals looks so effortless, Weaver tells Dagbladet.
The Sky profile does not come to Oslo to comment on Norway against Northern Ireland at 20.45. This puts an end to the quarantine rules.
Men Weaver says:
– I think a number of fans in Northern Ireland hope that Haaland will be rested and not play on Wednesday.
For Northern Ireland, a victory over Norway is the last straw if the team is to have hope of winning the group in the Nations League.
– Haaland played 120 minutes in the European Championship playoffs (against Serbia) and 80 minutes in the next match (against Romania). You may hope that Borussia Dortmund make an agreement with national team coach Lars Lagerbäck that he will not play, says Northern Ireland’s coach, Ian Baraclough.
– But, he continues:
– On the other hand, you want to meet the best players. If we are going to the European Championship play-offs, then top teams and top players are something we will play against.
It was 11.10 yesterday morning when Haaland and Norway entered Ullevaal Stadium and made the final preparations. He had music on his ear and was checked for the temperature according to the covid-19 regulations.
Now it’s about group victory in the Nations League. The 1-2 loss to Serbia in the European Championship playoffs is like a leaden backdrop. Getting ahead of Austria, Romania and Northern Ireland is the best Lars Lagerbäck and Norway can hope for. If not, autumn will be a failure.
And for the record:
Lagerbäck has not received a phone call from Borussia Dortmund to rest Haaland.
Norway has fond memories of Northern Ireland. As many as 1-5 were on the board for the Norwegian guests at Windsor Park last month. Weaver was there for Sky Sports.
– The expectations in Northern Ireland are that the team will do better this time, he says.
– Northern Ireland missed midfielder Jonny Evans last. It was a big setback.
Haaland scored two of the goals. Alexander Sørloth did the same. But afterwards things have happened that make the football fever bigger in Northern Ireland than in Norway.
The team beat Bosnia-Herzegovina in the European Championship playoffs, the one we lost to Serbia. Slovakia now awaits in the playoff final on 12 November.
– The attention of the fans is directed towards this match, Weaver points out.
– They hope that the team ends this round with international matches with a promising performance against Norway. But it’s going to be tough.
– I spoke to Northern Ireland coach Ian Baraclough. He said that if he was not the team’s coach, but only a supporter in Belfast, then he would stand in the stands and applaud Haaland after the match. The ability to score goals is so natural.
Lagerbäck has spent the last few days talking about “air castles”. He believes that the Norwegian media comes with unrealistic expectations and raises players.
But that may not be the case with Haaland. Most recently yesterday, he was once again connected to Real Madrid by the Spanish major newspaper Marca. In the Northern Irish edition of the Daily Mirror, the title “Deadly Weapon” read over two pages.
– Haaland is one of the fastest players I have seen. I want to compare him to Robert Lewandowski in Bayern Munich, says Sunderland’s right back, Conor McLaughlin.
– He is incredibly fast and strong, and not least a very good finisher. I am grateful that he plays for Norway, says midfielder Kristoffer Ajer.
While Austria and Norway have six points, Romania has four points and Northern Ireland one. Both teams must win at Ullevaal tonight.
– I do not know what happened to Northern Ireland last. They were perhaps a little poorly prepared for our qualities, says Lagerbäck.
– In the last match against Austria (lost 0-1) they were back to their old selves. They worked hard and were well organized. We have to expect a tough match.
The coach feels the pressure and frustration after the Serbia loss on Thursday. The 4-0 victory over Romania three days later was an upswing.

Tonight, just three points is good enough. The group winner gets an extra opportunity to get to the World Cup finals in 2022.
