Erling Haaland scored on the first day of the Premier League this Sunday, in the clash between Chelsea and Manchester City. The opportunity for the Norwegian to send a message to Marc Cucurella, who had teased the Skyblues striker this summer through a song.
Erling Haaland was on vacation but did not miss the video of Marc Cucurella teasing him on July 16 during the Spanish national team’s party to celebrate Euro 2024. The Chelsea defender had taken up, with his teammates, a rather teasing song concerning the Norwegian. “Haaland you should tremble because Cucurella is coming,” sang the Spanish European champion.
The Norwegian striker did not respond to Cucurella’s provocations. However, he had certainly noted the date of August 18 in the calendar to resolve the problem directly on the pitch. It took him 17 short minutes to open his account this season under the eyes of a helpless Marc Cucurella.
“Cucurella is a funny man”
The phlegmatic Erling Haaland was asked about this after the match and was rather direct, even a little mocking: “Cucurella is a funny man. Last season he asked me for my shirt and this summer he made a song about me”. The Spanish full-back was also widely heckled by the City fans as he walked past them to return to his bench after his exit.
After his European champion title with La Roja this summer, the return to reality is rather hard for Marc Cucurella who, with his team, were copiously dominated by the four-time Premier League title holder, Manchester City. The Spanish full-back from Chelsea will have to wait until January 25, 2025 to find Erling Haaland and try to make the latter tremble during the 23rd day of the Premier League.
