Jakarta –
Erling Haaland already scored 26 goals in the 2022-23 Premier League, equaling the best record Sergio Aguero in one season while defending Manchester City. With the remaining matches remaining, the Norwegian striker has a great chance of surpassing the achievements of his predecessor.
Haaland scored his 26th goal against Arsenal in the Premier League continuation at the Emirates Stadium, Thursday (16/2/2023) WIB. In the 82nd minute, he completed Kevin De Bruyne’s pass with a low shot into the left corner of the goal guarded by Aaron Ramsdale.
This goal was Haaland’s first in February, ensuring Man City won 3-1 while simultaneously pushing Arsenal off the top of the standings. The two teams both collected 51 points, but The Citizens were superior on goal difference.
Haaland now only needs one more goal to beat Aguero’s best. During 10 seasons defending Man City, the former Argentine striker ‘only’ scored 26 goals in one season in the Premier League at most, and that happened in the 2014-15 season.
If Aguero needed 33 appearances to score 26 goals, then Haaland only needed 22 appearances. With 15 matches remaining in the Premier League this season, it is very likely that the number of goals will increase.
At present, there are not a few who favor Haaland being able to score the record for the highest number of goals in one season in Premier League history. This record is still jointly held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who scored 34 goals.
As a reminder, Haaland’s goals tally so far is on par with Aston Villa’s, and more than Crystal Palace (20), Nottingham Forest (17), Wolverhampton Wanderers (17), West Ham United (19), Everton (16), Bournemouth (20), Southampton (18), and… Chelsea (23).
