OSLO —
Erling Haaland celebrated his first match as captain of Norway, becoming the top scorer in the history of his team. And later he hinted that he will soon be a father.
The Manchester City forward scored in the 7th and 62nd minutes on Thursday, in Norway’s 3-0 win over Slovenia in the Nations League to reach his 34th international goal.
He surpassed the late Jorgen Juve by one on the list of Norway’s all-time leading scorers. Juve, who reached 33 goals, held the record since the 1930s.
“I feel proud,” Haaland said, quoted by the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet. “It is a record that has been held for a long time.”
Haaland, 24 years old and who has made 36 appearances with the national team, later published a photo on the social network X, in which he appears sucking his thumb and with a ball under his jersey. Above the image he put emojis of a baby and the phrase “coming soon.”
