/ world today news/ The possibility of Bulgaria, after Hungary, signing a long-term contract for the supply of gas from the Russian Federation is realistic given a pragmatic approach and the political will of the Bulgarian authorities, Russian Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova told RIA Novosti.
“This option is of course possible with a pragmatic approach and political will,” she said.
Mitrofanova clarified that since there is now a caretaker government in Bulgaria, these issues have not yet been considered.
Moscow should not be afraid of Bulgaria’s refusal of Russian gas delivered through the pipeline at the expense of liquefied natural gas (LNG), there is no reason for this, Russian Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova told RIA Novosti.
At the end of August, the Bulgarian gas operator Bulgartransgaz signed a contract to purchase 20 percent of the supplies under the LNG project from a terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece.
“I believe that there are no grounds for such fears, since liquefied natural gas is much more expensive. Especially in the context of rising spot prices to some cosmic heights, stable, long-term contracts, as life shows, are of great importance. Russia always has been a reliable supplier of gas and I think common sense will prevail because Bulgaria is still a poor country and for end users the price of natural gas, the price of electricity is very important,” she said.
