Gypsy Rose Blanchard: The Story Behind the True-Crime Sensation, Her Mother’s Murder, and Life After Prison

“Millions of people around the world are following Gypsy’s story and are interested to see what’s next for her. Gypsy has endured a trauma caused by her mother, served a prison sentence, and is now taking everything life has to offer. Viewers want to see her become the woman she’s always wanted to be,” Lifetime executive Elaine Bryant said in a statement to Us Weekly.

While the series is yet to be filmed, the story of mother and daughter can be seen in the film “Dear Dead Mommy”which tells about Gypsy’s life with her mother, the medical procedures she endured, surgeries, the use of drugs, their effects on the organs, as well as the girl’s growth, the realization that her mother is lying, her efforts to get away from Dee Dee’s supervision and her mother’s murder.

From childhood, Gypsy was claimed to suffer from leukemia, muscular dystrophy, brain damage, seizures, visual and hearing disorders, and mental problems. The woman was convinced she needed a wheelchair and a feeding tube. Dee Dee collected money from fellow citizens to finance her daughter’s medical care.

In 2015, Gypsy and her then-boyfriend, Nicolas, were arrested for the murder of Dee Dee, who was found dead in her home from stab wounds. It was later revealed that the woman had suffered from Munchausen syndrome, a psychological disorder characterized by attention-seeking, from the person in her care.
