The Gyeongbuk Police Agency announced on the 5th that it is investigating 11 workers belonging to the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) Cargo Solidarity Headquarters (Cargo Solidarity) for interfering with the operation of cargo vehicles by non-union members (obstruction of business and assault).

From the 24th of last month until recently, they were accused of interfering with the entry and exit of trucks driven by non-union members in Pohang, or of insulting and assaulting drivers.

From 24 to 5 last month, when the strike of the cargo unions began, the police responded by mobilizing 47 riot police units, 10,958 policemen and 252 patrol cars. During this period she supported the convoy of 91 trucks.

Going forward, the police decided to deploy police officers around rest areas and toll booths 24 hours a day in preparation for highway raids by Cargo Solidarity members and illegal acts within the rest areas. Those who interfere with the police escort truck will be punished by applying the relevant laws, such as obstruction of public administration.

A police official said: “We plan to punish illegal acts such as encouraging violation of (the government’s) business start-up order or interfering with joint government investigations.”
