Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesia, made a deal with China. The deal is linked corona vaccine (Covid-19).
The meeting was held by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and BUMN Minister Erick Thohir yesterday, Thursday (20/8/2020). Both are in China, in the context of a bilateral meeting with the State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Wang Yi in Sanya, Hainan, as well as with a number of Chinese pharmaceutical companies.

Following are the latest updates of the two ministers from Panda Country:
Order 40 Sinovac Vaccines
Yesterday, the two ministers announced that they had secured 40 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from the Sinovac company. Sinovac made an agreement with the Indonesian state-owned company, Bio Farma.
Previously, Bio Farma had collaborated with Sinovac to conduct a phase three clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccine candidate. This clinical trial has been carried out in Bandung and involved 1,620 volunteers and it is estimated that the results of this clinical trial will be known in early 2021.
Retno Marsudi revealed that this agreement was a preliminary agreement (initial agreement). Where Sinovac will provide 40 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine if successful in November to March 2021.
“Second, the MoU for the 2021 vaccine case, in which Sinovac will give priority to vaccines after March 2021 until the end of 2021,” he explained in a digital press conference.
Retno Marsudi added that regarding the availability of vaccines, the government also spoke with Sinopharm and CanSino. The two Chinese companies are also developing a Covid-19 vaccine which has entered its final phase.

Get 2 Other Chinese Vaccines
Meanwhile, BUMN Minister Erick Thohir revealed that the government is exploring work with pharmaceutical companies Cansino Biologics and Sinopharm for the availability of the Covid-19 vaccine. The two pharmaceutical companies are currently developing a Covid-19 vaccine and are in the final stage of clinical trials outside China.
Erick Thohir said it was important to ensure adequate vaccine quantities. Apart from being on time, safe and at affordable prices.
“We in the Committee enlarge and make various efforts to reduce the spread of the virus while continuing to build the nation’s independence through the development of the Red and White vaccine and healing therapy,” he said.
“While waiting for the Red and White vaccine, vaccines from other countries are still needed to protect the Indonesian people so that Health Recovers, the Economy Rises.”
Erick added, Indonesia also continues to be open and explore other international collaborations. This is to ensure and accelerate the availability of a safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine in Indonesia.
