Guus Meeuwis: ‘If necessary, The Streamers will reunite’ | Stars

entertainment">“It will be a completely different show, with a whole new set list”, De Munnik looks ahead to the concert in Rotterdam. “The possibilities are limitless and we are going to take advantage of that,” adds Guus Meeuwis, who founded the band together with Kraantje Pappie. “We are in a stadium and we will use it.”

entertainment">The idea for The Streamers arose when live performances were no longer possible due to corona. The live streams turned out to be a golden opportunity and the first two shows attracted more than 1.2 million and more than 2.5 million viewers from different countries respectively. Guus did not expect it to be such a success. “I thought people would like it. But it’s online anyway, that’s impossible to estimate,” says the singer. “It’s really fantastic that everyone is so enthusiastic about it. It was one of the nicest and best solutions in our time.”

The Stones

entertainment">A closing event in De Kuip is the icing on the cake for the founders. A true spectacle awaits viewers on Saturday, the gentlemen assure. “The Stones have been standing here, U2, Queen. We’ll take that with us”, De Munnik gives a glimpse of the content of the almost three-hour show. “We are in a stadium, then it has to pop. We’re going to ram.” Just like the first two shows, the performance in De Kuip can be followed for free.

entertainment">They don’t think it’s a shame that The Streamers is ending. On the contrary. On the contrary, it is good news that the occasional band can stop. “The Netherlands is slowly opening again, the terraces are coming back, there are parties again,” says The Streamers founder and event organizer Machiel Hofman of Tribe Company. “The timing really couldn’t be better. Hopefully we can get back into the country soon, as it should be.”

Dot on the horizon

entertainment">Paul and Guus are also looking ahead and hope to be able to perform in front of the public again this fall. “The Streamers’ concerts were always a dot on the horizon,” says De Munnik about the past few months, when the agenda was virtually empty. “It really got us through a difficult time as artists. Now we hope to be able to tour again after the summer. I am really looking forward to that.”

entertainment">If that performance in front of an audience does not work out, Guus will have an idea of what he will do. “If necessary, we just get back together,” he assures.
